Speaker Profile
Kara Pranikoff has cultivated a robust instructional life in New York City. She has spent years as a classroom teacher in a public school known throughout the region for its inquiry-based learning and integrative social studies curricula. Across two decades she also had the privilege to learn and lead in many capacities: a reading interventionist; a school-based Literacy Coach; a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisor; and an adjunct instructor at Bank Street College of Education. She has been a consultant and speaker at schools around the country and has led workshops at NCTE and ILA conventions.
Kara's book, Teaching Talk: A Practical Guide to Fostering Student Thinking and Conversation, shares ways to foster productive and independent student discussions in elementary and middle school classrooms. She believes that conversations have the power to nurture students and teachers to become co-conspirators in the creation of a more inclusive world.
