Hi,
I was wondering at what level you begin cold read running records? I had always been told not before a child can read a level 5. Is there a rule of thumb?
Thanks,
K

There is no prerequisite level before a teacher can give a Running Record or a Reading Record on an unseen text.
The purpose of the reading determines whether the text should be familiar or new to the student.

When doing a cold read assessment, and the child reads a word incorrectly without noticing it more than one time, do you stop them and correct them or ask then to relook at that word?
In a lower level book that same word could be on every page, therefore they continue to read the word incorrectly and then will score low on the assessment.
