We're planning to use the LLI Red kit for an intervention when it is available this fall. Our current intervention block is 30 minutes. If the schedule prevents us from having a 45 minute intervention block, are there modifications/suggestions included in the LLI Red system so that a teacher may use the materials for a 30 minute block rather than a 45 minute block? Thanks!

I posted the same question on their FB page and here is their response:

Irene C. Fountas & Gay Su Pinnell Yes, it's true -- although, of course, there are tradeoffs. Your Red System Guide will contain Appendix D, showing "30 Minute Variation Lesson Frameworks" for the various lesson types, which as a group are designed to take five days in 45-minute sessions, to be spread out over six days in 30-minute sessions. Obviously, the 30-minute plan contains fewer minutes of teaching and so cannot be expected to bring results as quickly. We hope and recommend that you work toward a 45-minute period whenever possible, but we do understand that conditions are not always so ideal. We wish you and your students the best, Kristy.
