On the Heinemann website's Fountas and Pinnell section, you can find some of the research that supports the Benchmark Assessment System. You can read or print the full report or its summary.

Best wishes!

I have the same issue! Someone is pushing for the DIBELS assessment over Fountas and Pinnell for our school. I have been trying to explain that they are completely different animals. I would love to find some research on the F&P benchmark assessment system. But what would that research actually be about? Because you can't actually show reading growth just by looking at an assessment... it would have to be a study linking assessment to effective instruction and student growth. Help, please. Anyone?

thank you!

Our Intermediate school district is telling us that running records are not research based assessments and that the interventions we use from the F&P Phonics books (sorting, high frequency word activities, etc) are not research based. They want us to do Language! interventions. They would love to see us move from balanced literacy to a basal reading program for our core curriculum. Help!
I have asked for their source of "research based" interventions and have not seen it yet.
Thank you in advance for any information you can give me to support the best practices we use.
