An opportunity for in-depth learning in your school or district

A well-informed teaching force is key to improving student outcomes. To ensure teachers and educational leaders have access to the most up-to-date, research-based professional learning opportunities, Heinemann Professional Development offers Residencies. Heinemann Residencies are in–depth, on–site professional learning experiences and long–range planning for teachers, principals, and district leaders that improve teaching, learning, and leadership.

Heinemann has built a long tradition of excellence in teaching and learning. In that spirit, Heinemann Residencies are

• rigorous, intensive learning experiences designed to enhance the existing strengths of a school or district and address its specific literacy needs
• an opportunity to interact at length, and over time, with a Heinemann author or author–selected consultant, who not only shares expertise, but demonstrates, observes, provides feedback, and helps create a plan for continuing professional learning
• anchored in current knowledge and research on teaching and learning and aimed at increasing the level of engagement and achievement for all students.

Residencies From: Ellin Oliver Keene Ellin Oliver Keene helped revolutionize how comprehension is taught across the U.S. The original edition of her Mosaic of Thought (coauthored by Susan Zimmermann), gathered the current research on comprehension strategies and turned it into powerful teaching for any classroom. more »

Virtual Residencies From: Regie Routman RRIR is designed to be a companion and explicit, easy-to-use guide for principals, coaches, and teachers seeking to embed ongoing professional development focused on excellent literacy practices, classroom-based assessment, and implementation of the Common Core State Standards. After decades of leading schoolwide residencies–and with more requests than she can fill–Regie Routman developed Regie Routman in Residence (RRIR), a DVD- and web-based literacy project that brings her demonstration teaching into your school and anticipates your literacy professional development needs.
