firsthand Professional Support
Heinemann Professional Development proudly offers firsthand Professional Support. Designed by our authors and delivered on-site by Heinemann-trained consultants, firsthand Professional Support deepens teachers' understanding of these classroom materials and gives them the professional insight needed to teach with greater skill and sophistication. firsthand Professional Support sessions:
- familiarize participants with the instructional ideas, theories, and strategies that shape firsthand materials
- demonstrate how lessons model the moves and language of a master teacher
- highlight ways to use, adapt, and extend the ideas behind the lessons to inform practice and meet the needs of individual classrooms.
With a deeper understanding of the thinking underlying each firsthand product, your teachers will be ready to maximize every instructional moment, every day—as well as to engage in professional decision-making that takes them beyond the resource's framework.
Follow-Up Support
On-site follow-up support is available to schools and districts that wish to continue professional development beyond the initial firsthand Professional Support session. Support days are customized for each site and may include:
- in-class demonstrations
- facilitating community learning team meetings
- co-teaching
- classroom observation and feedback
- additional guided study of a particular topic or set of teaching strategies
- planning sessions
- train-the-trainer support.
